ACEC/Michigan develops a legislative agenda each year to address the issues affecting engineering companies. Our government relations program focuses on advancing issues that improve the business environment for Michigan engineering firms. Legislation is closely monitored, and ACEC/Michigan weighs in on all issues that affect the business of engineering. The government relations team provides timely legislative and regulatory updates for its members and strongly promotes active member involvement.
Key Issues for the Council include:
ACEC supports investment that meets Michigan’s growing infrastructure needs – for bridges, tunnels, energy, roads, transit, airports and water systems.
Statewide Use of Qualifications-Based Selection
Procurement of design professions (engineers, architects & surveyors) should include a selection process that evaluates qualifications and experience. All public agencies should use QBS (versus low bid) for the best value and to protect the health, safety and welfare of the public.
Frivolous lawsuits drive up the cost of doing business and clog our court systems. ACEC supports all measures to reduce this abuse.
Fair Contracts/Proper Indemnification
Engineers should be held responsible for the professional services they provide, but they cannot be held responsible for the liability of others.
