Public Act 119 of 2009 instructed the Michigan Department of Transportation to complete an investment-grade traffic study to verify that traffic still warrants the Detroit River International Crossing (DRIC) project in light of the economic downturn in Michigan.
According to an MDOT press release issued on February 17, 2010, the new study reaffirms the need for the new crossing project to support trade between Canada and the United States. The report, and all supporting information, must be submitted to the Michigan Legislature by May 1.
MDOT is also soliciting interest from the private sector (also required by P.A. 119) in joining a public-private partnership to construct the DRIC bridge, plaza, and related infrastructure. Responses are due by March 17.
