ACEC launches transportation funding petition drive

Michigan's transportation infrastructure in dire need of repair; funding for infrastructure can be a catalyst for improving Michigan's economy - 2/3/2010

Michigan is experiencing a transportation funding crisis. Due to the lack of proper funding, our roads, bridges and other transportation facilities are falling apart. MDOT and local road agencies cannot provide the necessary match for federal funds-putting in jeopardy hundreds of millions of dollars that Michigan motorist have sent to Washington DC.

To assist in passage of legislation to increase funding for transportation, the American Council of Engineering Companies of Michigan (ACEC/M) has launched an “unofficial” petition drive to obtain signatures from individuals who support increased funding for Michigan’s transportation infrastructure. “We believe there is a great deal of support by Michigan residents when it comes to providing safe, smooth roads”, stated ACEC President Paul Wade, “our goal is to collect the signatures and share them with legislators to demonstrate that they have the people’s support for increased investment in Michigan’s transportation infrastructure.”

ACEC/M has sent petitions to all of its member firms, consisting primarily of professional engineering companies, and also created an on-line petition at: www.gopetition.com/online/33792.html. “A vibrant Michigan is impossible without a quality transportation system - crucial in moving goods and people quickly, safely, and efficiently”, stated ACEC/M Executive Director Ronald W. Brenke. “Michigan is suffering and investing in our infrastructure should be used to spur economic expansion.”

ACEC of Michigan represents the business interests of Michigan engineering, surveying, architectural and related scientific firms who provide professional knowledge to the built environment and strive to protect the health and safety of the public.
