Expansion & Renovation
Moore & Bruggink
The Grandville Clean Water Plant Expansion and Renovation entails the first Egg Shaped Anaerobic Digester in Michigan. The digester produces methane gas for generation of electricity for the plant and heating the process and buildings. This project incorporates sustainable design concepts to produce clean water, bio-nutrients for farms, and offset plant power and gas requirement.

Facility and Pump Station
CDM Smith
The facility and pump station provides the additional conveyance and increased pumping capacity necessary to reduce flooding and basement backups in Detroit's Oakwood District by pumping sanitary flows for treatment at the City's wastewater treatment plant, and storm flows to new fine screening facilities and combined sewage overflow storage/treatment basins for disinfection and screening.

Greeley and Hansen
Ann Arbor's $43 million Residuals Handling Improvements Project overhauled and upgraded an older wastewater residuals handling plant that could no longer be cost-effectively maintained. Collaborative planning, innovative design, and staged construction methods enabled achieving all milestones on-schedule and on-budget, while maintaining the plant's existing operations in full service.

Chemistry Building
Harley Ellis Devereaux
Wayne State University's Chemistry Building embodies the adaptive reuse and transformation of a 40-year-old building into a state-of-the art center for innovative research. Featuring 96,000 square feet of laboratory space, a four-story 15,000 square feet atrium and lecture hall, the design accentuates the center as a gateway to the campus entrance in Downtown Detroit.

Wilcox Professional Services
This $28 million historical viaduct reconstruction project is located on M-85 in the City of Detroit. Wilcox's innovative "Pile Supported Strut" design allowed the viaduct profile to be raised 6 feet despite weak soils, reduced cost of the retaining walls, and provided large pile spacing needed to accommodate underlying utilities.

URS
URS and Somat designed the bridge replacement for Wadhams Road over Black River - a two-span bridge supported by conventional abutments and a massive first-of-its-kind pier. Due to the instability of the southern slope, the design of the foundation system allows downhill soil movement, while limiting bridge movements.

The City of South Haven retained FTC&H to complete a new water filtration plant project at South Beach, the very popular and busy site of its existing plant. A compact design and sequenced implementation were needed to complete the project and maintain the existing plant in operation throughout construction.

Spalding DeDecker Associates
SDA performed a sewer investigation survey of a segment of the Oakland Macomb Interceptor Drain to obtain precise 3-dimensional measurements of the pipe alignment. This precise data would allow the contractors to use pre-fabricated sections of pipe that would fit the existing tunnel to replace sections that could potentially fail.

ROWE Professional Services Company
Minnesota Limited, LLC and ROWE Professional Services Company worked together to assist Consumers Energy with completing a 23.3-mile natural gas pipeline in Oakland County. They encountered and overcame several challenges, including working in wetlands and the inability to physically enter a parcel that needed to be surveyed.

Wade Trim
Performance-based hydraulic models for the local and regional sewer systems were used in combination by Wade Trim to design Allen Park's sewer project as a cost-effective storage solution that brought their sanitary sewer into compliance without burdening Detroit's system. This major pipeline's compact alignment virtually threads the needle of urban constraints to protect public health and the environment.

Plant Water Resources
Prein&Newhof
Prein&Newhof designed a reverse osmosis water treatment plant for the City of Allegan, replacing its original plant and its lime-softening system. It includes a 0.5 MG ground storage tank, solar panel roof, and mixed oxidant generation system.

Ground Run-Up Facility
C&S Companies
The ground run-up facility at Detroit Metro Airport is a 90,000-square-foot enclosure where aircraft engines are tested after maintenance. The structure has 42-foot-high walls with 2,000 noise-absorbing panels that significantly reduced community noise exposure from 20 to 2.2 square miles and from 1,800 to 0 residences versus testing in the open.
