For decades, stakeholders could not overcome real and perceived challenges of redeveloping on uncontrolled waste. Sewer repairs at this diameter, depth and length have never been attempted without the ability
to bypass flow. This project prolonged the life of critical infrastructure; prevented future collapses; reduced system I/I by 16 MGD, saved $10 million in construction costs and saves $23 million annually in sewerage treatment costs.

Delivered via a public-private partnership, the M-1 Rail Streetcar project provides a modern, world-class rail transit system to reinvigorate downtown Detroit and provide an additional mode of reliable transportation. AECOM is the lead engineering consultant for the project, which runs 3.3 miles along Woodward Avenue and includes 20 stations.

DLZ Michigan, Inc. was the prime consultant for this complex interchange upgrade. The project replaced two existing bridges over I-94 with one bridge and utilized multilane roundabouts. The project included several significant design challenges that were overcome by DLZ and MDOT working in close partnership.

A comprehensive design survey was performed for the Gordie Howe International Bridge (GHIB) project in Detroit, MI. Through a process of data fusion, multiple datasets including aerial LiDAR, aerial mapping, and mobile LiDAR were merged together to create a seamless final deliverable for the design and construction of the GHIB.

Muskegon River and wetlands, an important migratory flyway, is a Great Lakes AOC (Area of Concern). F&V integrated RTS and GPS with a remote controlled boat and drone to perform topographic and bathymetric survey. Our map provided roughly 10 times more data points for GEI Consultants, Inc. to better assess and design habitat restoration improvements.

This $20 million project treats deicing fluid runoff at Grand Rapids’ Gerald R. Ford International Airport. The Natural Treatment System (NTS) technology uses detention, bacterial treatment, filtration, and natural aeration to transform nutrient-laden stormwater into clean water before discharging it into the Thornapple River.

Located a few miles southwest of Lansing along the M-100, the bridge over the CN/GTW railroad was designated for replacement. AECOM designed the temporary abutments and slide operations necessary for implementing accelerated bridge construction (ABC). The ABC technique utilized was a lateral slide of the proposed superstructure into place.

The new Fort Street Bridge is the heaviest bascule leaf in the world, at 8.2 million pounds, and the second largest by deck area, at over 15,000 square feet. The bridge accommodates five traffic lanes and two pedestrian/bikeways, and provides a striking visual enhancement to the community.

CDM Smith led a bi-national design team under the CMGC process, providing a vital upgrade to the International Bridge Plaza at Sault Ste. Marie. New administration and toll facilities and I-75 terminus and ramps were constructed while ensuring plaza operations continued with minimal disruption during the complex accelerated construction schedule.

The Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge was created to protect the Detroit River shoreline. A dock/fishing pier were part of the design but bids for construction were above budget. NTH reengineered to eliminate underwater efforts,creating a design that was easier to build, able meet schedule restrictions, and saved $1,000,000.

J&A provided research, surveying, design, and contract administration for a very successful pre-chlorinated pipe bursting project in West Bloomfield. After extensive research the Township selected pre-chlorinated pipe bursting to replace 11,910 feet of 60 year old cast iron water main. The method proved economical and provided minimal disruption to residents.
