Each year, ACEC/Michigan develops a legislative agenda focused on improving the business environment for engineering firms statewide. Our government relations team actively monitors policy developments, advocates for sound legislation, and provides timely updates to our members.
We encourage our members to engage in the legislative process to ensure Michigan’s infrastructure, public safety, and economic development continue to benefit from the expertise of professional engineers.

2025–2026 Legislative Priorities
ACEC/Michigan develops a legislative agenda each year to address the issues affecting engineering companies. Our government relations team focuses on advancing issues that improve the business environment for Michigan engineering firms. Legislation is closely monitored and ACEC/Michigan weighs in on all issues that affect the business of engineering. The government relations team provides timely legislative and regulatory updates for its members and strongly promotes active member involvement.
Legislative Successes:
ACEC/Michigan has a proven track record of legislative successes. Notable achievements include:
Public Acts 164 & 165 of 2024 - Authorized automated speed enforcement systems in work zones to improve safety for construction workers.
- Public Acts 148 & 149 of 2023 – Authorized MDOT to establish high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes as part of federally funded highway projects.
- Public Act 164 of 2023 – Required use of concrete barriers or equivalent safety measures for longer-duration or nighttime freeway work zone closures.
- Public Acts 154 & 155 of 2023 – Mandated regular lead testing and water safety plans for schools and child care centers.
- Public Act 238 of 2023 – Modernized certified survey map standards to allow GPS and CAD use.
- Public Act 81 of 2022 – MI-Indiana Line Remonumentation Act
- Public Act 271 of 2022 – Extension of Remonumentation Fees
Public Act 343 – Reinstated historic preservation tax credits
- Public Act 367 – Improved lien laws for the A/E industry
- Public Act 323 – Created the Michigan Infrastructure Council
Public Acts 174, 176, 179 – Comprehensive Transportation Funding Package
- Registration fee increase
